Do you know YOUR DEMOCRACY?

The core idea of the project is to empower young people to become active, informed, and resilient democratic citizens by strengthening their understanding of democracy, political participation, and media literacy. The project responds to growing challenges across Europe, such as the rise of disinformation, declining trust in institutions, political polarisation, and the reduced participation of young people in democratic processes.

Through international cooperation between organisations from different parts of Europe, the project aims to create safe and inclusive spaces where young people can learn, discuss, and actively engage with topics related to democracy and civic participation. Special attention is given to young people with fewer opportunities, particularly NEET youth, who are often less involved in political and social life.

The project is based on the idea that democracy cannot be taken for granted and that young people need practical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and opportunities for participation in order to actively contribute to democratic societies. For this reason, the project combines political education with media literacy, helping young people recognise disinformation, fake news, and manipulation in digital and traditional media environments.

Objectives

  • To develop and improve partnerships and opportunities for young people from the North, South, East, and West of Europe on the topics of democracy, democratic societies, grassroots activism, media literacy, and its connection with democratic societies;

  • To increase the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of young leaders in the five partner countries and partner organisations regarding the development, implementation, and evaluation of youth activities and programmes focused on democracy, the importance of democracy in today’s society, media literacy, and the management of disinformation and their connection to democratic societies through two training activities: LTTA1 and LTTA2;

  • To improve and strengthen the existing capacities of partner organisations for the development, implementation, and evaluation of local and international projects aimed at including, connecting, and empowering young people in local communities to develop critical thinking and skills related to democracy and the prevention of media disinformation through Youth Leader Hubs led by young leaders trained during the project;

  • To develop a competency framework for young leaders focused on empowering and educating young people about democracy, the importance of democracy in modern society, media literacy, and managing disinformation and their relationship with democratic societies through the development and publication of two educational manuals;

  • To develop and further improve the knowledge and skills of young people from the five partner countries, as well as from across Europe, on the topics of democracy, democratic societies, grassroots initiatives, media literacy, and their connection with democratic societies through participation in Youth Leader Hubs: learning about democracy and participation, developing their own activities and campaigns as alternative forms of political participation and active citizenship, creating board and card games, testing educational games, and participating in the promotion of final products on relevant educational platforms and social media;

  • To engage, connect, and empower young people to participate in democratic processes and society through Youth Leader Hubs and Youth Exchanges, where they will jointly explore topics related to democracy and political participation and develop and exchange common ideas for action;

  • To engage in intensive dissemination and exploitation activities of newly created outputs and involve at least 150 participants (with a special emphasis on greater inclusion of NEET youth and young people with fewer opportunities) in youth activities focused on democracy, democratic societies, grassroots initiatives, media literacy, and their connection to democratic societies through the use of board and card games for young people, as well as educational manuals for youth leaders and youth workers.
