Carousel 8 successfully implemented Handbook 2 follow up workshops within the Do you know YOUR DEMOCRACY? project

Following the successful implementation of LTTA 2 activities within the Do You Know Your Democracy? project, Carousel 8 organised a series of three follow-up workshops focused on media literacy, democracy, communication, and ethical decision-making. The workshops were held on 5 December 2024, 19 December 2024, and 23 January 2025, gathering around 25 participants per session, primarily university students interested in media and democratic participation.

Using methodologies and topics developed through Handbook 2, the workshops created an interactive learning environment that encouraged critical thinking, open dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving. Participants explored communication barriers through the Shannon-Weaver communication model, discussed current media trends in Croatia and Europe, and examined how media framing and bias influence public perception and information consumption.

Special attention was given to debates on media policies, freedom in the digital age, and the growing challenges of misinformation and digital communication. Through group discussions and collaborative activities, participants reflected on how emotional responses, cultural differences, and preconceived assumptions can shape communication and public discourse.

The final workshop focused on controversial topics in media literacy and moral and ethical decision-making. Participants actively engaged in discussions, debates, and practical exercises designed to strengthen critical thinking, source evaluation, empathy, and respectful dialogue. The workshop encouraged participants to analyse how media narratives influence opinions and how ethical considerations affect communication and decision-making processes.

Overall, participants described the workshops as engaging, inclusive, and educational. Many highlighted the value of the interactive and discussion-based format, which allowed them to openly exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and consider different perspectives in a respectful environment. Participants reported improved confidence in discussing sensitive topics, a better understanding of media dynamics, and stronger critical thinking and communication skills.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing interest in participating in similar activities in the future. Suggestions for improvement included allocating more time for deeper discussions and incorporating additional small-group and hands-on activities to further increase engagement and participation.
